Ordnance Survey National Grid maps, 1940s-1960s - Sheet Lists
The most detailed Ordnance Survey maps after the Second World War. 1:1,250 scale maps for urban areas with more than 40,000 inhabitants, and 1:2,500 maps for other inhabited areas, including smaller settlements and cultivated rural land. The 1:10,560 series was eventually published for all areas, and by the late 1960s covered most of Scotland, apart from the central Highlands and the Northern and Western Isles. The 1:10,560 series was derived from larger-scale 1:1,250/1:2,500 mapping in urban and more populous areas, and was most detailed 'basic' scale for many more remote rural areas.
