Pont 20 : Glen Tilt

  • The title (top), in Pont's hand, reads:
  • This pag[e] [com]pryseth all the Branches & River of
    Tilt compleetlie
  • followed by Be Mr Ti. Pont in the hand of Robert Gordon. It is clear that Gordon made several additions to this map and these are discussed in detail by Stone (1989). For example, Gordon inserted the symbol for Blair Castle on this map. A much more elaborate depiction of this important castle may be seen on Pont 19.
  • At the top of the map there are two notes. They say:
  • Aalach is the yrish na[me] of atholl
and
  • the head of
dee 7 myl [miles] nordeast fro[m] the head of
    ghalduy

  • The south west corner of this map is overlapped by Pont 19, Pont 23 (front), and Pont 25 (back). Pont 27 includes a part of the south east of the area.
  • The following manuscript maps by Gordon include parts of this area although they provide little additional information: 2, 3, 4, 6, 25, 28A, 40, 41.
  • See also Blaeu's printed map of Braid-Allaban and a small part of his Aberdonia & Banfia.

Maps by Blaeu and Gordon can be accessed via
the National Library of Scotland's Digital Library.
