Lanark
In this detail, the 12th-century royal burgh of Lanark (LANARK)
is shown with four portal gates controlling entry to its cross-shaped
street pattern. To the left, the River Clyde flows north towards Glasgow,
whilst to the right can be seen Cartland castle (Kairtland).
