Pont Maps of Scotland, ca. 1583-1614 - Biographies

We know less about Timothy Pont than about his astonishingly detailed maps. He was probably born around 1565, the son of a prominent cleric. After studying at St Andrews University from 1580 to 1583, he appears to have spent the late 1580s and the 1590s travelling throughout Scotland, mapping the country. Between 1601 and 1610 he was the minister of Dunnet Parish Church in the very north of Scotland, and he is believed to have died by 1614.
