Dr Simon Taylor was educated at Dunfermline and St. Andrews, and after some time spent away from academia, undertook a Ph.D at Edinburgh University on 'Settlement names in Fife'. Since completing this in 1995, he has been a Research Fellow in early medieval Scottish sources and toponymics at St Andrews University, as well as co-founder and vice-convener of the Scottish Place-Name Society.
