Translation of text:

GLOTA ISLAND,
or
ARRAN.
FROM CAMDEN. (Section Note)

In sight of Cunningham, among several other islands, Glota Island stands out, mentioned by Antoninus, in the estuary of the River Glota or Clyde, today called Arran from the castle of the same name. In the interior it all rises in a range of mountains, at whose feet it is cultivated along the coasts. The first Earl that I have read of as having it was Robert Boyd; his wife and with her the Earldom, when Boyd was exiled, was, as I have previously said, taken by James Hamilton, and his posterity have also enjoyed it. See Buchanan on Robert Boyd. (1)
